Introduction
Dragon’s Dogma 2 has ten base-game vocations. Fighter, Archer, Thief and Mage are starting choices; Warrior and Sorcerer unlock later and are also available to Pawns. Magick Archer, Mystic Spearhand, Trickster and Warfarer are Arisen-only. Change your selected vocation at a Vocation Guild after unlocking it.

Which vocation fits the way you want to play?
Choose Fighter if you want a shield and close-range defense, Thief for fast dagger attacks, or Archer for a bow and manual ranged targeting. These are playstyle suggestions based on the documented weapons and roles, not a damage ranking.
Choose Mage if you want healing and party support; choose Sorcerer if you prefer offensive spellcasting and can make room for longer incantations. Warrior favors heavy attacks and deliberate timing.
The Arisen-only vocations change the approach more substantially: Magick Archer combines ranged magick with support, Mystic Spearhand mixes melee and magick, Trickster depends on illusions and Pawn damage, and Warfarer uses multiple weapon types. Pick the role you want to perform, then fill missing party roles with Pawns.

Vocation unlock conditions
Warrior and Sorcerer: take Vocation Frustration from Klaus at the Vernworth Vocation Guild. Retrieve the requested greatsword and archistaff, then return the weapons to the guild. Check each unlock separately; obtaining a class does not mean every maister skill is unlocked.
Magick Archer: complete Put a Spring in Thy Step by helping Gautstafr and escorting him to the hot spring. The existing guide below covers the route and the unlock notification.
Mystic Spearhand: speak to Sigurd about his fighting style. One route is after the dragon attack at Melve during Readvent of Calamity; the checked guide also lists his Coastal Hut in Harve and a later main-story encounter, so his location depends on progress.
Trickster: speak to Luz’s illusion inside Reverent Shrine in northern Battahl. Unlocking the vocation and obtaining its maister teaching are separate tasks.
Warfarer: speak to Lamond at Geyser Hamlet in the Volcanic Island Camp and complete The Sotted Sage by bringing three Newt Liqueur. This hub covers the unlock requirement, not the current skill-slot count or an optimized build.
Put a Spring in Thy Step unlocks Magick Archer; Cliodhna is the maister.
Unlock route: flowers → home → hot spring. The Magick Archer unlock notification is visible at 3:23. This is not a Dark Arisen build guide.
Warrior and Sorcerer unlock quest through the Vernworth guild.
Sigurd and progress-dependent encounter locations.
Speak to Luz’s illusion at Reverent Shrine.
Lamond, The Sotted Sage and three Newt Liqueur; no current skill-slot claim.
How to change your vocation
Visit a Vocation Guild
Talk to the guild clerk, such as Klaus in Vernworth, and open the change-vocation service.
Choose the character and unlocked vocation
Select the Arisen or Main Pawn, then choose an available class. Pawn choices exclude the four Arisen-only vocations.
Acquire the vocation if needed
A first acquisition uses Discipline (Dcp). Complete any missing unlock quest first; check the in-game cost rather than relying on a universal fee.
Review equipment and skills
Equip the weapon type used by the new vocation and check its skills. A change of class is not evidence that a maister teaching has also been earned.

Why can’t my Pawn select this class?
Pawns can use Fighter, Archer, Thief, Mage, Warrior and Sorcerer. Magick Archer, Mystic Spearhand, Trickster and Warfarer are exclusive to the Arisen. Unlocking one for your character does not add it to your Pawn’s selection.
Discipline is used for vocation progression and skills. Acquired augments can be equipped across vocations, but class-specific weapon skills and maister teachings should not be treated as universally available.

Dark Arisen and current balance changes
The table above covers the base-game roster and unlock routes. It is not a claim that every skill, balance value or Warfarer rule is unchanged in the October 2026 version. We are not adding a new expansion vocation or publishing a “best class” tier list without separate current-version evidence.
